Joe Began training in Martial Arts a week after his 4th Birthday in December 2006. Joe didn’t take to the sport straight away and it took him a couple of years of hard work for his passion to develop. When Joe reached red belt something all of a sudden changed. He wanted to train every day at the academy and at home he couldn't get enough. At the age of 8 Joe was asked to perform at a local British Red Cross event to raise vital funds for the charity. He wanted to do this so much but having never done any public performances before he didn't want to do it alone. Danny Ball (one half of the duo "Strike" who reached the finals of Britain’s got Talent a few years ago) trains Joe so he was the first person Joe thought of to perform with. Danny said he would perform with him. So in May 2011 Joe at the tender age of 8 years old, made his debut performance in front of about 300 people with Danny and it was amazing to watch.
The same year Joe entered his first ever local interclub competition. Despite never competing before Joe went to the competition to gain experience but ended up winning! These two big events in Joe's Martial Arts Journey were a huge turning point for Joe, he wanted to perform and compete where ever and whenever he could. His first major competition was in October 2011 at the IAKSA British Kickboxing Championships. After 4 gruelling fights Joe walked away with 3rd Place.
One of the most nerve racking moments for Joe was when he was approached by Doncaster Rovers and asked to perform on the pitch before one of their home games, he was also interviewed after the performance in front of 8000 fans, he never faltered and was so confident - amazing for a 9 year old.
One Monday afternoon early 2012 Joe's telephone rang and Kwowklyn Wan (brother of Gok Wan) had called! He been watching videos on YouTube and had come across Joe's performances from his recent competitions. Kwowklyn explained that he was in charge of the Martial Arts Show Live at the NEC and would like Joe to perform. Joe jumped at the chance!
Since May 2011 Joes Martial Arts has not only taken him all over England, but also over to Canada and Holland to represent England.
Joes achievements are only the beginning as at 9 years old he is only just working out his potential and where he would like his Martial Arts to take him. Joe has trained for nearly 7 years, but only competed for only not quite two years .He has won 10 British Titles, Two World Bronze Medals, a World Silver Medal and a Gold Medal, which has earned him his first ever World Title, not bad for 10 years old!
Joe has also recently been signed to Doncaster Knights Professional Rugby Union Under 11s team and hopefully one day wants to star in films like his hero Bruce Lee and has also been asked over to LA next year to star in a new martial arts/power rangers movie.
But besides all this he loves what he does and trains hard not only in the gym but in his purpose built "Tornado Martial Arts" Dojo, Joe always stays true to himself and as his hero Bruce lee once said:
"Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it." Bruce Lee
